River Phoenix
Understanding Phoenix's Water Supply and Most Precious Resource
by
Gordon Baker
The amazing thing about Phoenix is that you can go months without any precipitation at all, but water still flows out of the faucets, and the lawns get watered and not too many people stop to try and figure it out. Just ask any Phoenician where the water comes from and you might as well ask them to explain the inner workings of a micro processor.

Visit Phoenix, Arizona
by
Sunil Tanna
Located in the Salt River Valley, which is sometimes known as the "Valley of the Sun", in central part of the state, Phoenix is the state capital and largest city of Arizona. As of the 2005, the estimated population of the city itself was 1,461,575, with an estimated 3,715,360 living within the Phoenix Metropolitan area. The city has at an average elevation of 1,117 feet (340 meters), and is located in the northern reaches of the Sonoran Desert. The Salt River runs westward through Phoenix, but because of the desert climate and dams up river, the Salt River is normally dry - water only being present when water is released from dams that lie up river.

Some of us like to live a little farther away from major metropolitan areas, but we can't go too far because the big cities have all the jobs. Here's a list of places near Phoenix, with apartments for rent that require a little bit of a commute to get to downtown. They're all about 35 miles away from the capital, but each community is well worth the drive.

by
Ryan W. Hutchings
Like all rivers across the US, the Salt River is unique. It's beauty and grandeur are partly a result of it's location on the southern edge of the Colorado Plateau in Arizona. The Salt River is home to a large number of plants, animals and bird life. It offers an outstanding adventure opportunity with world class rapids and stunning scenery. The Salt River Canyon is truly one of the southwest's hidden treasures.

Capital Cities Tour: Discover Phoenix, Arizona
by Priscilla Faith Rhodes
Phoenix has a unique character made up of Indian, Spanish, and Wild West influences that compete against a towering background of gleaming high-rise architecture. Named after the mythical bird that rose from its own ashes, the city, like the bird, defies nature. It's modern skyscrapers rise above the dry desert to support a thirsty population of more than a million people. Its perpetual sun and warm climate attract winter-averse people of all ages, mostly retirement age.
