Trading Gaps - An Analysis of the Big 4

Gaps are voids on a price chart where no supply is offered. On a price chart each bar represents all the trades that occurred during that period, a gap is the complete absence of any trades within the price range that form the gap. Gaps are most commonly seen in the securities market because the exchange is only open for trading from 9:30 A.M. EST to 4:00 P.M. EST; this leaves a lot of time in between trading sessions where market and company news can affect the forces of supply and demand. Gaps occur less frequently in more efficient markets, like the FOREX currency market, because that market is open for trading 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
